Although, the king ahasilavarat was disparaged, he was not angry. Instead, he persisted in practicing the dharma and compassionating for the enemies.
All amaatyas and army leaders had to tolerate the actions of enemies. But in their minds, they were full of anger, and they still had conscious control because they practise themselves very well. Another reason was they had the great respect and faith in the king Mahasilavarat. So, they did as he told and were ready to face the coming danger of death. |
In that night, the wild wolves and foxes, and the dangerous animals went out to the zombie cemetery, for living, as usual. |
When they saw the human heads that poked out of the dirt, they thought that those were corpses. They all ran into them, to bite and eat them. |
The king Mahasilavarat perceived the coming danger. He contrived a plan to frighten the wild animals, and told the plan to all amaatyas and army leaders. He arranged them that to shout out loud together whenever the wild animals were running into them. That voice would frighten them, he said. |
When the wild wolves and foxes looked back, and then, they found that nobody chasing, so, they came back to where the king and everybody else were. The king and everybody else drove the wild wolves and foxes off with the loud shout again.
This same event occurred three times. Then the wild wolves and foxes had already known that all human heads could only make a loud noise, but could not come to harm them. A leader in a herd immediately ran toward the king. |
Although the king Mahasilavarat could not move, however, he was conscious and very intelligent. He extended up the neck as much as he could. So, the leader in a herd could easily see the kings neck. He leaned his head closer to the kings neck, and meant to bite it. But the leader in a herd had not bitten yet, suddenly, the king used his chin to punch the leaders head tightly as if a crushing machine. |
The fox strived hard to survive. The leader in a herd pawed the soil until the soil was widely scattered away. That made the soil loose. When it was loose enough for the king to move his body, so, he left his chin up to let the fox go. |
Then the king pulled amaatyas and army leaders out from the dirt. When everyone was up on the ground and then took the rest at the cemetery. |
In this cemetery, there were two giants. This cemetery was a place for them to find food. They ate corpses as food. This cemetery was divided into two areas. Half area belonged to a giant and the other half area belonged to the other giant. The giant who possessed the area where the corpse was be found, would be the one who possessed the corpse as well. |
But in that night there was the carcass left at the border line. The two giants could not share the corpse, so, that corpse was the controversial food issue. |
Finally, the two giants, who had seen the event all along about the king Mahasilavarat and the wild foxes considered that the king Mahasilavarat had an incisive intellect and he was the king with the ten royal virtues and without prejudice. So, they came to appear before royalty. |
So, both giants hurried to fetch the king the fragrant water, the clothes and accessories. And they also offered him the delicious food. |
After he finished his meal, the giants then came to ask him what else he wanted. |
Then, both giants invaded the royal bedroom, then took a knife placed near the king Kosol who was sleeping, and came back to bring it to the king Mahasilavarat. |
Once his knife was brought to the king Mahasilavarat, he cut the corpse with his knife. He split it into two equal pieces, from head to hips down the center line of the corpse. And then he gave the giants each. After the giants finished his corpse and they overwhelmed with gratitude of the king. So, they just wanted to show gratitude to the king. |
When the king Mahasilavarat went into the royal bedroom, he had seen the king Kosol sleeping. Then he put down his knife on the king Kosols chest. The king Kosol was shocked to wake up and felt fear, as if he saw the god of Death standing in front him. |
When the king Kosol had consciousness, and then, he asked with shaking voice, about the reason for the king Mahasilavarats survival and how he could come back here. The king Mahasilavarat consolled him, and he released him from fear. He then told him all what happened and told that he did not hold any anger towards him.
Until dawn, the king Mahasilavarat ordered all amaatyas and army leaders, as well as the citizens, to get together at the front gate of the city. When the king Kosol came out among the people, he praised honor of the king Mahasilavarat. He held a public ceremonytoapologize to the king Mahasilavarat. Then he declared that he would return the throne back to the king Mahasilavarat. |
Then the king Kosol deployed troops back to the Kosol city. He ordered to punish the evil ammaaty for provoking him to commit sins. |
For the king Mahasilavarat, when he regained the throne, he pondered over the power of perseverance. |
Since then, the king Mahasilavarat had been making merit, keeping the precepts, and practicing meditation more and more, with a faith-filled heart for all his life-time. |

Mahasilavat Jataka |
:: Why the Jataka tale is told :: |
During the Buddhist era, there was a Buddhist monk who intended to practice. But he had not attained any the Path to Nirvana. Subsequently he declined practice.
The Lord Buddha had great mercy, and then He called the monk to query. Then He recalled with reminiscence of past or previous births. The Lord Buddha had used the Jataka tale to teach the monk.
:: Ideas from Jatakatale :: |
1. When we observe the precepts and practice the dharma, in which it is so obvious until it is recognized and acknowledged by the others. Maybe, there are some fools who take advantage of our observation of the precepts. We have to find a way to prevent before it happens. The principle of the prevention is based on keeping the complete set of precepts and maintaining strict discipline. Whoever did wrongwouldbe punished, don't give the fools a chance to do wrong.
2. When there is a problem, do not easily solve the problem by using violent means. Otherwise the problem may be prolonged and endless, because of the endless feud and revenge. Therefore, all wise people should solve the problem based on the principle of Dharma.
