:: Why the Jataka tale is told::
|
. ... During the Buddhist era, there was a daughter of a millionaire in Ratchakrut city. She and her one slave in the millionaires house had secretly sexual relations without marriage, and then they ran away together. Later, she gave birth to two boys, the elder son named Maha Pandaka and the other son named Culapandaka. When the boys grew up enough to ask her about the other maternal relatives. So, she told them about their grandmother and grandfather. Her sons often pestered her to go to find their grandmother and grandfather. The couple then took their family to Ratchakrut city. But her parents did not accept both her and her husband. However her parents just adopted the kids to foster.
..... Two kids were staying with their grandmother and grandfather until they were adults. Later Maha Pandaka had listened to the sermons of Buddha, and then he had ordained, finally reached the enlightenment and became Arahant. He thought about his brother and then he brought his brother to have ordination. But his brother is a dummy. Even a short chapter of the magical spell, he took a four months to memorize nothing. The brother monk wanted Culapandaka monk to leave the Buddhist monkhood, causing much regret to Culapandaka monk.
..... Those days, Maha Pandaka monk served as the one in charge of the distribution of food when Dr. Chiwaka Komanrapat invited the Buddha and all the monks to his house. Maha Pandaka monk accepted the invitation excluding Culapandaka monk. Culapandaka monk hurt inside, causing him to want to leave the Buddhist monkhood. In morning of that day the Buddha foresaw what was happening. The Buddha came to Culapandaka monk, and gave him a pure white cloth, and also told him to keep groping over the cloth and reciting meditation mantras at the same time. Culapandaka monk did as the Buddha said. Later, once he noticed the cloth was getting dark, he felt sorrowful, and then he considered in the Dhamma. This brought him to reach the enlightenment and became Arahant.
..... At Dr. Chiwakas house, the Buddha had not rejoiced in the merit yet. He said that there was still one more monk in the temple. So, Dr. Chiwaka had sent his servant to find the monk. It turned out thousands of monks all over the temple. This happening was the supernatural power of Culapandaka monk to change by magic. Then, the servant ran back to tell Dr. Chiwaka about what happened. The Buddha had told the servant that you have to call out loud the name of the monk, Culapandaka monk. If anyone answers first, then you bring him to the invitation place. The servant followed what the Buddha said. When Culapandaka monk had arrived to be offered food and also rejoiced in the merit.
..... The next day, all monks praised the grace of the Buddha. As the Lord Buddha acknowledged this, the Buddha said that not only Culapandaka monk was a dull this life, but also, he used to be a fool in the past life, and not only, the Buddha helped Culapandaka monk in this life, but also in the past life. Different in the past, the Buddha helped him to be the worldly property owner. But in this life, the Buddha fostered him to be the owner of the property which released one from the world. Then the Buddha told the Jataka to all monks as mentioned above.
