Seven bases of the mind
According to our practice, the mind has several bases, or resting places, in the body.
The first base of the mind is at your nostril. For ladies it's your left nostril. For gentlemen it's your right one.
The second base of the mind is the inner corner of your eye; left for ladies and right for gentlemen.
The third base of the mind one in the middle of your skull.
The fourth base of the mind one is behind your palette.
The fifth base of the mind is in the throat at the level of your Adam's apple.
The sixth base of the mind is in your abdomen at the umbilicus level.
The seventh base of the mind is 2 finger widths above your navel level (2 finger widths above the sixth base of the mind)
When you meditate, you can imagine your object such as a crystal ball, sun, moon or star. Let it become small and move to our nostril. Let it stay at your nostril for a few seconds and then move it to the corner of your eye. Let it stay for a few more seconds and move it again each time from one base to another until the object arrives at your seventh base of mind.
Some appreciate this technique to move the object through the seven bases. Some prefer to attend directly to the seventh one. Anyway you feel comfortable is the right way for you.
